Norway welcomes unprecedented growth

A RECORD-BREAKING 3.1 million passengers traveled via Norwegian airports in June, according to Norway Post, placing air travel at all time high. The June record is mainly due to the growth in international traffic, which for the first time reached 1 million passengers, which is an increase by 12 percent over the period last year, Norway Post reports. Inland traffic volume in June reached a 7.8 percent increase over June last year, with 2.06 million passengers.

Statistics Norway figures reveal that ticket prices dropped by 23 percent from 2001 to the end of 2003.

The National Institute for Transport Economy (TOEI) is optimistic that further growth will be attained.

Lower prices and more destinations are seen as the main reasons for the growth in air travel.  TOEI, however, believes that prices may have hit bottom.
