PRIDE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IN MANILA, PHILIPPINES 2004: INCLUDING COMPLETE SCHEDULE

2004 PRIDE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (PIFF) is proud to announce the detailed festival screening schedule for August 21-28. This event will take place at the Dream Theater (Tanghalang Manuel Conde) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila. This festival will be in its first year celebrating “Pride, Freedom and HIV/AIDS Awareness.” Pride International Film Festival is an international gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and HIV/AIDS themed film and video festival in the Philippines, sponsored by the CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES, KODAK PHILIPPINES, EMBASSY OF SWEDEN, ROYAL NORWEGIAN EMBASSY,
CANADIAN EMBASSY, WARNER MUSIC PHILIPPINES, YEHEY PHILIPPINES, SIFRA INTERIORS AND OBJECTS.

The mission of the 2004 Pride International Film Festival (PIFF) is to help advocate HIV/AIDS education on awareness, prevention and care through films screenings and its other events during the festival. PIFF also has a beneficiary (Positive Action Foundation Philippines, Inc.), where portions of the proceeds from its festival and events will be donated to this local non-profit organization fighting for HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and facilitating support responses for the needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Philippines.

PIFF’s “Lifetime, Achievement & Distinction” Award will be presented to Sir Ian Mckellen for his excellence and outstanding performances in acting and his unending advocacy for gay rights. Sir Mckellen, a noted and well-known thespian, has appeared as lead actor for films such as “And The Band Played On”, “Gods and Monsters”, “Bent”, “Lord of the Rings” & “X-Men” series, and his latest “Emile” which premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival. Sir Mckellen will be given the highest honors of the Festival this August in Manila.

The “Judy” award, named after the late Ms. Judy Garland, is presented to the Most Influential Woman in the Entertainment Industry. Madonna, who has been an “Icon” of the diverse GLBT communities all over the world for the past few decades now, and has excelled tremendously
with her hit songs and albums, not limiting to her Golden Globe winning role as “Evita” in the same movie title, will be honored during this event.
