Casa Arequipa – This New boutique hotel in Peru is a work of art

AREQUIPA, Peru (October 22, 2003) – Casa Arequipa, a new and artistically designed guesthouse in Peru’s important second city of Arequipa, has just opened. Located in the quiet residential neighborhood of Vallecito and just a short walk from the bustling Plaza de Armas in Arequipa, Casa Arequipa is one of the finest small hotels in Peru. It is the perfect base for exploring architectural wonders of Arequipa or the stunning mountain ranges and poignant villages of southern Peru.

Originally a local family’s neo-colonial home, this three-story mansion that offers views of the surrounding Andes mountains, has been refurbished to preserve its Old World grandeur while adding contemporary amenities. The walls are made of sillar, or crushed volcanic ash from the surrounding volcanoes, and the floors are marble and mahogany. Each of the seven guest rooms with either double or king size beds is individually decorated with Andean antiques and art, specially made wrought iron lamps, bold colors, hand crafted beds, rich Alpaca bedcovers and pure cotton sheets and towels. Room amenities include private baths, cable TV, clock radios, telephones and CD players. The Arequipa Tourism Board has awarded Casa Arequipa three stars, the highest possible ranking for a small guesthouse.

While staying at Casa Arequipa, guests enjoy complimentary cocktails upon arrival, a daily gourmet buffet breakfast, an elegant lobby bar open for afternoon cocktails and a roof deck offering breathtaking views of the majestic Andes Mountains. A friendly staff welcomes and assists guests in Spanish, English or French and is more than happy to arrange tours and excursions.

Suggested excursions from Casa Arequipa include: Colcha Canyon, a dramatic canyon approximately 100 miles away; El Misti, a volcano that towers over the city; architectural walking tours of the stunningly well-preserved colonial style buildings; and shopping trips for great deals on alpaca products, leather and other local specialties.

Introductory rates from now until the end of 2003 are $59 for double occupancy and $49 for single occupancy. For reservations call (202) 332-1942 or email Additional information and a photographic tour can be found at
