Libya Blessed with Variety and Contrast
Libya is an ancient culture with a distinctive character. By even today’s standard, Libya can offer all the right ingredients towards tourism development and success. The recent visit by FIFA inspection team to verify Libya’s file request to host the World Cup in 2010, may indicate combined openness and modernization to the world of travel.
Libya has much to offer, with rich heritage that dates back to the emergence of mankind, the pre-historic art work and engravings in rock shelters of Tadrart, Matchandoush and Acacus Mountains are evidence of old civilization. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Spaniards, the Knights of St. John, Ottomans and others all left there mark, as did developed civilizations that flourished in Sabrata, Leptis Magna, Cyrene and Oea.
Sea beaches of 1700KM are still to be explored in the heart of the Mediterranean. In recent years, and after lifting the sanctions, Libya made some movements to ease restrictions for travelers and now you can notice groups in the archaeological ruins and historic sites and in the desert with its culture and scenery.
Also one can see many tours to Libya offered in the European market, especially in Italy, France and England. Like other developing tourism destinations, however, there is a lot to be done to improve its image and entry procedures.
Libya may be doing just that.
