Royal Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo [TIME] 2004
Letter from: Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X: Governor and Sultan of Yogyakarta Special Province: Republic of Indonesia
On behalf of the travel and tourism industry of Yogyakarta, I would like to extend a “royal” welcome to all participants to this year’s Royal Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo [TIME] 2004, the first time in TIME’s history that it has been held outside of the capital, Jakarta.
Royal TIME 2004 is a strategic international event that will help showcase Yogyakarta and Java to the international tourism market and demonstrates why we are one of the region’s most attractive destinations.
Yogyakarta (or “Yogya” as its friends call it) has a highly developed tourism infrastructure, which offers excellent and well-priced accommodation, food, entertainment, arts and crafts, attractions, souvenirs, transportation and other services for all types of visitors from backpackers to 5-star hotel guests.
As the cultural heart of Java, Yogya has many world-renown artisans and artists working with arts and handicrafts in every form of medium and material including batik, leather, woodwork, textiles, paintings, pottery, sculpture and silverware.
Furthermore, Yogya possesses important archaeological, historical and heritage sites including the Sultan’s Palace (Kraton), Taman Sari, the Water Palace, and the nearby UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites of Borobudur and Prambanan temples. There is a vast number of traditional Javanese performing arts featured throughout the province including classical Javanese dance in the royal tradition, gamelan music, Ramayana ballet, and popular ‘wayang’ or shadow puppet theatre.
Delegates to TIME 2004 will be able to see for themselves this exciting range of performing arts during the “Nusantara Kraton Arts Festival IV’ which is scheduled to run at the same time in Yogya in September.
To make access to Yogyakarta even easier for TIME 2004 delegates, this year Yogyakarta’s Adisucipto Airport is inaugurating international direct scheduled flights from important SE Asian regional hubs such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. As well, of course, Yogya is only an hour’s flight on one of the many daily domestic flights linking Yogya to Jakarta and Bali.
While many regions of Indonesia will be participating in Royal TIME 2004, Yogyakarta’s hosting of this important event gives us an unmatched opportunity to show the world in person what we have to offer. Finally, you are guaranteed to receive warm hospitality and a genuine welcome from the people of Yogyakarta who are proud to show their heritage to the world.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to Royal TIME 2004 in Yogyakarta
Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X
